Che-checkkkk it out! I'm on the new Bike Pure site!

Race your bike clean people...might as well quit if you're taking short cuts, because if you're taking short cuts you're not racing for the true passion of the sport.

Get it done right!

Bike Pure

My decision on joining BikePure was quite easy. There are too many racers today that I once looked up and now look down upon. Especially as a junior, a lot of the pro racers are my idols. As I see more of them test positive I regret that I even noticed them. But I’m just an older junior, younger juniors that always know what is going on in the pro tour always say, “ I want to be like [insert pro rider name here] when I grow up!!!” It is every junior’s dream to become pro and race in Europe. And when young juniors find out that the professional they look up to tests positive, it is up to them to either not look up to them anymore and move on or continue to follow and defend their favorite rider. Either way the professional has influenced the young junior wrongly and is setting a bad example. If the young junior were to continue to support their favorite pro rider, what if they ended up doping as they got older and moved into the big ranks and wanted to take a short cut???
I believe short cuts are for those who don’t have the heart to put 110% into what you are doing. Short cuts are for people who don’t have the courage to do it right, which means that they aren’t racing because it’s their passion. Doping shouldn’t be the answer to win a race. So I joined BikePure to campaign and help safegaurd the future of cyclesport because the future, like myself, and all fellow juniors do not want to rely on doping to become pro or win races. Winning clean, fair, and right is the best feeling anyone could ever have.
And if you agree with me, go to Bike Pure and sign up today to take a stand.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Super Off Season!

I know it has been a while since I have put up a blog, but I dont have much news for you all since I am in my off season. So I am here to tell you:

Merry Christmas!

Happy New Year!

&

Super Off Season!

I have been having an awesome off season, which was kicked off with Shelley and Rob's wedding. Then got into some speedskating, which was verrrry fun, but scary too! It was a weird sensation to have a blade over 1 foot long under your foot. Then I spent a night at my friend's house going bowling and breakin' out the glow sticks in the car for a major car rave. Then hit up the jacuzzi. There has been a lot of catching up and hanging out during my off season for sure. For Christmas I got a Chipoo puppy I call Snickers :), she's a total cuddler. Now I've been busy taking care of the pup and I caught on to my younger sister's cold, so I am not feelin' it right now. I am hoping to get over this cold ASAP so I can go snowboarding and have fun on New Years.

Other than all the fun I've been having, I REALLY miss my bike! But this break is good for me...it has been a long year and it has been relaxing to put my feet up for a bit. I start training at Sport Science Lab this week, which is a really awesome gym I went to last year during my offseason. You should check it out: www.sportsciencelab.com. And I went for a run earlier last week and that was NOT fun at all.

Also!!!! I've been getting into the vlogging scene and I have started to film and edit a few vlogs...check those out at: http://www.youtube.com/corynriveraracing

All for now!

2009 US Cyclocross National Championships - Junior Women 17-18
Saturday, December 12, 2009, 12:23 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
There was a lot of hype in my category. Kaitie Antonneau had been racing the full cyclocross season this year traveling to all the USGPs. And Kendall Ryan had been racing the full cyclocross season in SoCal. I on the other hand raced a UCI World Cup in Manchester, England and focused a lot of time on the track. When it came down to it had to choose between UCI World Cup in Cali, Colombia and US Cyclocross Nationals in Bend, Oregon.

Since it would be my last year as a junior for cyclocross, I choose to roll my dice at Cyclocross Nationals.

I began my real preparation for cyclocross on the track, building really good fitness. Then as far as equipment goes I got Dugast CDM tires on Zipp 303s to help cope with the mud, snow, and ice in my future cyclocross racing. Then I got blue Vernice Sidi Dragon SRS 2 so I could power away in my races. I had Sixtufit leg balm to keep my legs warms during the most brutal conditions. And most importantly I raced on my 2 Fuji cyclocross steeds with awesome handling.

At the start line, anticipation for the whistle was running through my head. Thanks to Joan Hanscom for grabbing my jackets at the start line as well. When the whistle finally blew, I took the hole shot and was first in the corner. I set a nice tempo. I took a turn too wide that led me to mushy snow and Kaitie then took the lead. A few corners later I tried to fight her for the lead. We were switching at the front a few times. Then when Kaitie was leading she crashed over an icy section and I crashed behind her. I stayed calm and regrouped my thoughts. I patiently waited for a mistake from Kaitie and I capitalized it by taking the lead once again. The gap grew as Kaitie crashed in the next corner. I sprinted up over all 23 stairs and Proman team director, Kristin Armstrong was on the sidelines yelling my time gaps to me. As I kept powering the pedals, my gap grew and grew. Luckily, I had no mechanicals, so my pit-men from www.acecosportgroup.com /K-Edge, Eric Jensen and Kristin Armstrong's husband, Joe Savola didnt not have to worry too much. From then on it was a matter of making the least mistakes as possible and maintain my lead. And I held it to cross in the line in first place to mark my 25th US National Title!

(Photos by Lyne Lamoureux from www.podiuminsight.com)

The combination of hard work, diligent sponsors and supporters who only want the best for me, and my will to win, propelled me to an 18th and 10th place in the Portland USGP and my 25th US National Title.

Honestly, a big THANK YOU has to go out primarily to my parents. They are the ones who have supported me from day 1 and have never supported me any less than the day before. Also to Proman Team Manager, Nicola Cranmer, for basically doing almost everything...from bacon, eggs, and waffles to making sure we have a place to stay at the races. To Eric Jensen, Kristin Armstrong-Savola and Joe Savola for coming out to Bend to support me at Nationals. And to Paul and Laura, my host house in Portland. And to the Mansour family for hosting me in Bend. And to ALL of my sponsors, THANK YOU!!!!

One more race on Sunday, the Elite Women's race...and that marks the end of my racing in 2009.

All for now,

Southern California Cyclocross District State Championships - Convert Cross
Tuesday, November 24, 2009, 12:16 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
This weekend I raced cyclocross state championships in Ventura, California near the beautiful Lake Casitas. I think I have finally made the transition to cyclocross mode. I was feeling really good today, so right from the gun I took off and never looked back. Then I turned it into the 'see how many cat 3 men you can catch' game. The cat 3 men started 1 minute ahead of us elite women and I tried to catch as many as I could. I think I caught a good 3/4ths of their field. It was quite a workout!

I just wanted to thank the race promoter for putting on a great race! I am very glad I havent missed this race in the past years!

Hart Park Cyclocross

This weekend I drove ALL the way out to Bakersfield for SoCalCrossPresteige Series, Hart Park Cross! I road tripped with my friend Jesse Marans. We jammed out to a lot of songs on the way there, thats for sure!!!

During the first lap of the race, I let fellow junior, Kendall Ryan, take the lead. The next lap I took the front and pushed the pace a bit. Then suddenly I had a bit of trouble with my front brake, so I couldnt go throught the technical sections fast. I would get a gap from Kendall on the run-up I was able to ride, then she would catch me by the technical section. On the last lap I was able to gain enough time on the run-up I rode to take the win!

Manchester World Cup
Tuesday, November 3, 2009, 12:57 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
I am super grateful I was able to have the opportunity to race a track world cup! And everyone tells me Manchester is the coolest of the them all, so I experienced the best of it! I raced in the scratch race and points race, and here is a recap of my first world cup experience:

Scratch Race

Shelley Olds, Cari Higgins, and myself were signed up for the scratch race. Shelley and I were in the first heat and Cari in the second. We all qualified safely to the final and got ourselves pumped up as we had a very high chance of winning. Olaberria of Spain made the initial attack solo and I chased her down. Once we got swallowed back into the field there was a strong move with 6 riders and Shelley was in it. That group eventually ended up lapping the field. Cari took the front of the pack and brought back a couple of danglers that also wanted to lap, but couldnt. Then it was all about positioning Shelley for the sprint. But I couldnt find my twin 5 foot assasin until the last lap. But it was too late by then to set something up so it was all about following wheels by then. Within the 6 riders that lapped the field, Shelley placed 3rd which gave her the BRONZE medal of the race. I finished up in 13th in my first world cup! And after putting in a lot of hard work Cari finished last, but was definitely not sad about it because her work paid off.

Points Race

Well talk about experience...I didnt score in the first 2 sprints, so I had to score something on the 3rd. But as I start setting up for the sprint, a Hong Kong chick crashes at the top of the track and starts sliding down and I am a little about the pole lane. I could see it coming...but I had faith that I would make it through and miss her. When we were parallel, she was about a foot above me, all I needed was my rear wheel to clear, but NOPE! On her way down, the Hong Kong chick hits my rear wheel, my rear Dugast tubular from Euro-Asia Imports rolls off of my Zipp 808 and I go sliding down the track with her. I dont remember if anyone else hit us or went down though. I was laying on the apron thinking, "Ughhh, WTF..." The medical peeps took off my helmet and Jim Miller and James Stanfill are running towards me. I unclipped and kicked my bike away. Then the adrenalin started pumping through my veins and I jumped up, checked to make sure I didnt break anything and was shaking everything off and trying to get back into reality while James and Jim changed my rear wheel. While they were changing my wheel, Daniel Holloway yelled at me to take a deep breath :). I got back into the race on the sprint lap and missed the 4th sprint, so it was all down the last sprint, I had to get points. I think the adrenalin wore off and I started to feel the pain from the crash and finished in 6th on the last sprint and didn't qualify for the final. Surprisingly I only got a pretty big bruise on my hip, whiplash, and a small burn on my shoulder, the size of a dime maybe. No holes in my skinsuit, burned up some handle bar tape, rolled a Dugast tubular, and burned a couple holes in my Oakley gloves. Not bad for a midget.

I'd say I soaked up alot from my first world cup experience. I got into the scratch final and even crashed :), a part of both ends.

Me racing in the scratch race final.

Shelley Olds on the scratch race podium.

Jr World Championships Report
Saturday, August 22, 2009, 04:07 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
The first race of the whole trip was the time trial. I was the 5th rider off out of 35. The Ukrainian winner of the TT World Championship started in front of me, which explained why I never actually saw her :). I was sitting in 4th place for a while, but I ended up in 16th place.

Time Trial near the river in Moscow.

There were about 70 or so riders in the road race. I liked the course, very punchy steep climbs, banked turns, flat/downhill finish. I really put a lot of focus into this race. Unfortunately, out of the 3 Americans(Kendall Ryan, Jessica Prinner, and myself) I was the only person who made the front group, while everyone else in the front group had a teammate. But either way I was grateful to even be in the front group. When the attacks started to come I was able to respond, but the 1 that I really needed to follow I missed. It is difficult to cover all the moves on my own, but I had to do what I had to do. When the break of 2 Italians, 1 French, and 1 Russian gained 1minute on the last lap I had to try to make one last move to bridge to the group. I attacked hard and got somewhat of a gap, but the italians would not let me go. I looked back and they were chasing hard, but I kept driving. They caught me on the next climb and attacked me and I went off the back of the group. When I reached the top of the climb Missy was standing there yelling at me to get accross NOW or else I'll never see them again. I put my head down again and dug deep to catch them before the next climb. When I finally caught them I started seeing stars after the amout of efforts I had to do. I took a gel(courtesy of Tim Brennan:) ) and tried to get ready for the final sprint. By the time we got there I was done, I tried to get out of the saddle, but it got me no where, so I rolled into the finish for 20th.

Road Race in Moscow Olympic course with Jessica Prinner behind. Dede Barry won Jr World Championships here 20 years ago.

I had one day to recover for track racing. The first event being the pursuit. Perfect. I decided that I wasnt recovered enough for the pursuit, so I used it as an opener for the omnium. I finished in 21st.

Next was the omnium. I had a 200m, scratch race, and 1.5km pursuit in the morning session. And a points race and 500m in the evening. I finished 8th in the 200m. 4th in the scratch. 7th in the 1.5km pursuit, 6th in the points race, and 6th in the 500m. And I ended up in 6th overall.

Track racing at the incredible Moscow Velodrome.

I had high hopes of going back home with a rainbow jersey, but that obviously didnt happen. But only being 16 and my first year at a world championship I am still happy with how everything turned out. I am really competitive, so not getting a rainbow jersey is upsetting, but I will eventually turn it into something great.

Hey Everyone!

Sorry I havent been able to get a new post on here. I've been out and about with not much internet. I have finally settled down here in Moscow at our hotel. I'm here with Kendall Ryan and Jessica Prinner. And the boys here are Nathan Brown, Jacob Rathe, Ian Boswell, Gavin Mannion, Lawson Craddock, and Ryan Eastman. We are just chillin here in Moscow. The part of the city we are at isnt the most glamorous, but it will have to do. Yesterday we rode the road race course, its pretty cool, its like a specific bicycle race course/path. And it is right next to the Moscow velodrome. I got a look of it yesterady and it is AMAZING!!! So far all 3 meals are pretty much the same looking. There are dogs lying around sometimes. But today I actually woke up early enough to experience Russian pancakes!!! Off to ride now!! Later!

Young junior sprinter beats the pros

By: Kirsten Robbins
First Edition Cycling News, Monday, July 27, 2009

Sixteen year-old Coryn Rivera (ProMan Hit Squad) captured the biggest win in her young cycling career when she out sprinted five-time US national criterium champion Tina Pic (Colavita-Sutter Home) and Australian Kristy Broun (Lip Smackers) in stage five, a downtown criterium, of the Cascade Cycling Classic.

"It's such a long straightaway, so I just stayed patient." said Rivera who recently won the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix and the San Rafael Criterium. "I actually don't think the other sprinters were expecting me to be a player in the final. I guess that surprised them!"

As a junior rider, Rivera is forced to use a smaller gearing ratio or what is termed 'junior gears' which are a 52 front chain ring and a 14 cog on the rear cassette, whereas the standard rear gearing for elite riders is as low as a 12 or even an 11 cog.

Rivera, followed by Pic, found her way onto Broun's wheel with 300 metres to go. She waited until the last possible moment to jump around for the win. "I ride with junior gears, and I have a fast acceleration, but I can't hold it long," Rivera said. "That means I really have to time it right every time I sprint."

Rivera practiced her victory salutes in training prior to the Cascade Cycling Classic in hopes of winning a stage. Last night she chose a folded-arm salute but according to the young speedster, there are more to come. "I've done it [victory salutes] twice before, and my director and I have some more up our sleeves," she laughed. "That was only one of them!"

Rivera, from California, is a 23-time US junior national champion in a multitude of disciplines; road, time trial, track and cyclo-cross. She began racing when she was six years old, encouraged by her father, Wally, and mother, Lina, who started her riding tandem with them, together, until she was big enough to rider her own bike. She is now known for her tactical prowess amongst the peloton and her great passion for cycling.

"Cycling, to me, isn't a sport, it isn't a hobby, it isn't an interest. Cycling, to me, is a passion," Coryn expresses her love for cycling through her writing and in quotes on her blog. "And where passion comes from, there is no pain, there is no suffering, but only the love of pain and suffering. And a passion is something you never quit, you never forget, and something you will always love. A passion is forever, cycling is forever."

Rivera has been selected by the US national team to compete in the junior world championships time trial and road race on August 7-9 in Moscow, Russia.

And on the other side of the world, Shelley Olds is kickin ass at the Giro with a 2nd place finish in a climbing stage!!!

Nature Valley Grand Prix
Monday, June 15, 2009, 03:47 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
Nature Valley is one of the toughest, but best organized race of the year. The first time I did Nature Valley was last year and that is when I first met Kristin Armstrong. Now it is her last year of racing and Nature Valley will be her last american race. It's surprising how fast time flies. Each stage at Nature Valley is filled over the top with intensity. This year, Proman Hit Squad had Shelley Olds, Rachel Lloyd, Rachel Neylan, Christen King, Nicole Brant, and myself on the front line ready for battle.

The first day was a double day. A 10km TT in the morning and the St. Paul criterium later in the evening. The TT was short and fast with a nice kicker at the end. I was satisfied with my run since it was better than last year, so improvement is always good. But it was really Shelley Olds who did great from Proman Hit Squad with an 11th place finish. Later in the evening Proman Hit Squad director sportif, Nicola Cranmer, came up with an awesome game plan for the whole team in the criterium. Rachel Lloyd led out Shelley for many of the Wheaties Sprint Points. And on the final sprint I swept Shelley's wheel and she couldnt get to the final corner first, so she ended up in 4th place, just one place off the podium.

The second day was the Cannon Falls Road Race, which didnt start until 5:30 in the afternoon!! It was different, but cool that we raced late, so I was able to sleep in real good. Only the end of the race, during the circuits and the dirt road really mattered. But about 5km before the dirt road, Rachel Lloyd and I got caught up in a massive crash that basically took out the Webcor team. We cyclocross-hopped back on our bikes and tried to chase back onto the pack. Then I noticed that there was blood dripping on me, and then I realized that it was coming from Rachel's elbow! She was hurting and she thought her elbow was 'hanging on by a thread' so I said we should just wait for the caravan and use it to work back up into the field. And that is exactly what i did, but Rachel couldnt hold on. Right when I caught on I moved up straight to the front and got myself ready for the dirt road to help protect Shelley. I exited the dirt road 3rd wheel, with Shelley right behind me. I just tried to hang on her wheel for the circuits, but it was a tough circuit for junior gears. Shelley ended up in 3rd place!

The third day was the Uptown Minneapolis Criterium. Today was all about getting sprint points forShelley to get in the lead and for Shelley to take the stage win. Shelley was in contention for all the sprint points, so she got into the Wheaties Sprinters Jersey. And she finished in 2nd and I finished up in 11th, the first amateur to finish and the 2nd U26 rider to finish. Rachel Lloyd did some major team work helping Shelley get to the line first for the sprint points.

The fourth day was the longest, the Mankato Road Race. All the women had to race 92 miles. Today was about protecting the Wheaties Sprinters Jersey. The team helped lead Shelley out for the intermediate sprints and followed wheels of those who were also competing for the jersey. The whole team demonstrated awesome team work, with Nicola always being on the radio for us telling us what was going on, with Tim making sure Christen's wheel change was smooth, Rachel Neylan swept up some leftover sprint points so that the other competitors wouldnt, Christen going back to the car for bottles, Rachel Lloyd also picked up some left over sprint points, I marked certain wheels that may have been in contetion for the sprinters jersey, and even my dad was in the feed zone for us after driving the big bus over to Mankato to keep the whole team comfortable before and after the race. Then after our race our host family had a bbq where we all got together and hung out by the bonfire with smores in hand!

And the fifth and final day was the infamous Stillwater 'Criterium'. If you've seen or have done Stillwater before you would understand why I put criterium in quotes. The race started at the bottom of a 22% climb. This race is always fast paced from beginning to end. And there is no possibility of riding that climb easy. Kristin won the stage and overall GC. Shelley got 2nd in the stage and moved up to 2nd GC after being in a break with Kristin and Andrea Dvorak. Rachel Lloyd finished in 11th on the stage. I finished as top amateur. And Rachel Lewis finished right with me.

My 2nd year at Nature valley grand Prix would have to be called a success. As a team, Proman Hit Squad successfully rode collectively to move Shelley up to 2nd in GC and the winner of the Wheaties Sprinters Jersey. Individually, each of us accomplished our own goals and we are very proud of what we have done together this past week. Racing in a professional field with world champions and olympic champions on junior gears is rediculously tough, but is definitely do-able, just put your head down and spin like crazy because it is a blessing in disguise and it will eventually pay it's dues.

Big thanks to the Cravens family for hosting Proman Hit Squad!

Big thanks to Mark, Chad, Derrick, Clay, and the rest of QBP for supporting us through all of our races and getting us on the fastest BMC bikes!

UP NEXT: HOME!!! After living out of my suitcase for about 2 months, it's time to spend some time with family and friends!

Today I visited Marian College in Indianapolis, Indiana. It was a nice small school that felt very homey. I met up with the Marian Cycling Coach, Dean Peterson. He is a very cool guy and I talked to him about the school. I learned a lot from our little meeting, but being a sophomore, I still have a bit of time until I really start to look at schools.

Soto Classic: Jr World Championships Qualifying Race

This year's Jr World Championships are in Moscow, Russia. And to qualify and race the Jr World Championships you had to win the Soto Classic in Franklin, Tennessee. So from Belgium I flew straight to Nashville, Tennessee and my dad picked me up from the airport because he drove our motorhome all the way over from California to Tennessee.

On Saturday was the TT. It took place on the Natchez Trace Parkway. It was a good road to have a time trial, very smooth. And the terrain was perfect, nice and steady rollers. It was quite hot and luckily I found a perfect shady place to warm up. When the time came, I rolled on over to the start line, rolled out, put my bike on the jig, did a knee test, and got myself ready for a very important time trial. Unfortunately, the Jr Women 17-18 course got downgraded to 10km long. After a 'blink of an eye' ride, I ened winning the TT and qualifying to race the TT in Moscow, Russia!!!!! I was super pumped when I found out the results!

On Sunday was the road race. It started at the same place as the TT. The course was amazingling perfect. Lots of challenging hills and a good length of 57miles. I decided the day before that I wanted everyone to race this road race. So I planned to make it a difficult race for everyone so that the winner truly deserved to race. When we hit the first hills I attacked hard and drilled it. On one of the downhills, Kendall Ryan launched a hard attack and no one ever saw her from there on out. Although all the other racers were looking at me to close the gap, I did not. Kendall Ryan ended up winning and I finished in 2nd. It's funny that this race situation has happened before and no one was able to realize it. Otherwise, I am very very happy that Kendall went home with the victory!!! Kendall Ryan and I will both be racing Jr. World Championships in Moscow, Russia!!!

Riding in Indiana

I am currently in a storage facility office typing this from my Blackberry. The weather here in Indiana is so unpredictable. Whe I left for my ride it was in the 80's and sunny. About 50 minutes later the wind started to pick up really fast and then it began to POUR! Then HAIL!! At this point I had to run for cover. I looked for the nearest place I could find shelter and here I am now! Bored out of my mind, waiting for the storm to blow through (it probably won't though). So I'm just going to chill here and hope something good happens...

Lotto Ridley Tour: Kessel-Lo
Sunday, May 24, 2009, 03:05 PM
Posted by Coryn Rivera
In Belgium there is a series of races called the Lotto Ridley Tour. The US National Team and I took part in the Kessel-Lo race, which is part of the Lotto Ridley Tour. The race started very fast as usual. We did 4 short laps and 2 long laps. The short laps were 4km long that consisted of small roads, tight turns, and of course, road furniture. The longer laps were 17km long that consisted of narrowing roads, a 2km slightly uphill cobbled section, a 700m long 17% climb, and a very long sprint finish. The short loops were very intense and fast. Some riders tried to make moves again, but none stuck. On the longer loops there were better opportunities to attack on the cobbles and the climb, but none stuck either. By that point I decided to set up for the sprint finish. Out of the last corner there is still about 1km to the finish line. I felt like I was in the Tour de France on a flat stage, bumping elbows for position, and moving up swiftly. I started my sprint fairly early and held it to the line, winning my last race of the trip!!

VICTORY!!!

Podium :)

Overall, I had an AMAZINGLY FUN experience in Europe. Staying at the USA National Team house in Izegem, Belgium with an amazing group of girls and staff was a ton of fun. I learned so much on this trip I don’t even know how to explain. From learning my sense of direction riding to Brugge with Kaitie to learning how to position myself in an aggressive Belgian peleton. And my most tasty discovery was Speculoos ;)

Sint Antonious

2 days after Moorslede, it was back to racing the girls. Today we raced 1 hour and 30 min away from Izegem in Sint Antonious. The course length was similar to Moorslede, 4km loops and we did about 15 laps. I have to say the most hectic part of the race is registration. There is no pre-registration, so I guess these Belgians are kind of old school. The numbers that we use for racing is also re-useable, so you register for a race for 8 euro, then after the race you return your numbers and get refunded 5 euro. You really only pay 3 euros to race, after you return your numbers. Another thing that the euros do is that they pin their numbers over the pockets. The race was delayed 30 min because registration took too long. The race started fast, as usual. The team goal was to counter all attacks. We did well covering attacks. I got in a move that stayed off the front for a while and Kendall helped block, but it just got swallowed back into the pack. On the last lap and 3 turns away to the finish line I got bumped into a ditch by a Belgian, 3 times bigger than me. I tried to hop back on the pavement but it was hard to make it back because the pack was coming by my side really fast. I had to unclip my right foot to try and keep my balance while 2 riders had to bump me. I really thought I was going to go down, but miraculously I didn’t. But the race was already 400meters in front of me by the time I got back on the pavement. I tried to sprint and get back in the race, but it was too late. I finished in the back of the pack.

In a breakaway with 2 Belgians.

Moorslede

On Thursday, May 21st it is a non-working day in Belgium. All stores, school, and offices were closed and it’s a perfect time to hold a bike race...for Jr. Boys 15-16?? The girls and I jumped in the boys race and gave them a run for their money! Moorslede was very fast from the gun, all of us stayed in the top 20 for the first 2 laps out of 15 laps, which were 4km long each. Anna Young had to pull out early due to back complications. Then Kendall Ryan got a flat after 2 laps. (NOTE: The is no wheel pit or follow cars in our races. When you flat, you’re done.) So it was just Kaitie and I racing with the boys. There was one boy off the front solo for basically the entire race. I went with a few moves with the boys but none stuck. On the final lap the boys were bumping like crazy! I thought I was going to lose my life! I stayed out of the shinanigans and sprinted in to 21st place, which I won 5 euro.

Omnisport Future Track Event - Apeldoorn, Holland

My Look 496 equipped with Zipps, A.Dugast tires, and Euro-Asia Imports gold cog in the USA pit upon the Apeldoorn stands.

After traveling 3 hours North of Izegem, Belgium the USA Jr. Track National Team arrived in Apeldoorn, Holland. There is a newly built velodrome and athletic center in Apeldoorn, complete with showers, a high-class restaurant, and VIP viewing boxes. This was my first international track experience and I was very anxious to see how it would turn out. As we walked into the velodrome I realized the other teams there are the Nederlands, Great Britain, Belgium, and Czech. They were all tricked out in matching track suits, mechanics that would change their gears for them, custom bike stands, soigneurs, and compressors. They were all pretty much a professional team. Racing was incredibly faster than what I am used to, very aggressive as well. On Saturday, I took part in the Team pursuit with Kaitie Antonneau and Kendall Ryan, my first ever Derny heat, and points race. On Sunday, I raced the individual pursuit, Derny final (which I won), elimination, and the womens madison with Kendall Ryan. It was a great experience and I learned a ton more about track racing.

Marieke-Bornem, My First European Race

It's really happening. All that I've been dreaming of, racing in Europe. It's here. It didnt hit me until I walked into registration, looking at all the other Belgian girls thinking, "Sweet, I get to race these euro chicks and show em whats up." After going through an intimidating registration we kitted up in the USA National Team kits and rode one lap of the kermesse. 1 lap was about 6.5km long and we did 9 laps. The start was a bit of a mess with people running all over the place. The start was pretty fast, a break of 15 went off the front immediately, but they eventually got caught on the first lap. I attacked a few times and went with some moves, but none stuck...they either got closed down or some people werent cooperating. But on the last lap it was all together. Everyone was just looking at eachother. I was a little cramped up in the gutter. Then during the last 1/3 of the course I attacked in the gutter and hammered to the finish line solo! I couldnt believe it!! I WON my first european race!

SRAM Tour of the Gila

Posted by Coryn Rivera
...was a tough Tough TOUGH race.

A great place for training, Silver City, New Mexico was where it was hoppin' for Gila stage race.

And big props to SRAM for picking up Gila off the ground and saving the race! Speaking of SRAM, I caught up with many of the SRAM guys. THANKS!!

The results werent so hot, although I did pull a fine 5th place on Stage 4 Criterium.

Gila was more of a training race. And good altitude training as well. A great race to do in preperation for my racing in Europe.

Kristin Armstrong basically tore up/smashed/exploded/incinerated/blew up/slaughtered the race.

...exactly as I expected.

But all in all, good racing, good times, good experiences. Surprisingly, I cant wait 'till next year!

UP NEXT:

EUROPE!!

I'll be keepin' yall posted on how my first racing experience across the pond goes! I got a track race in the new track in Apeldoorn Netherlands! And I have 4 races on the pave!

Thanks for reading! I'll post in a new one probably in Europe! :)

Dana Point Grand Prix

After losing a very long and extensively detailed blog about the Dana Point Grand Prix while driving on the road to Gila I am just going to post this mock up until I cool down and find the motivation to type it all over again.

Race Summary:

Course = fast and pretty much flat

Crashes = pretty gnarley, sent teammate Ashley Dymond to the hospital, but OK.

Teammates = were amazing and rode awesome! Nicole Brandt covered plenty of attacks. Cari is like my race mom keeping me safe from harm and taking me to the front. Ashley Anderson strung it out with 3 to go. Christen King rode strong after crashing pretty hard. Ashley Dymond took a trip to the hospital but is doing good. Nicola Cranmer is basically the coolest person on the face of the orbiting earth!

End result = 4th place

After my race = watched the rest of the races from the Oakley Rolling O Lab roof

READ ALL ABOUT IT!
